IPCC vs. UNFCCC — two definitions of "climate change"

tap to flip

IPCC: ANY change in climate over time due to natural variability OR human activity (the broader scientific definition Hussen uses, p. 206). UNFCCC: climate change attributed SPECIFICALLY to human activity (the narrower policy definition used in international treaties). The professor uses the contrast as an exam-relevant conceptual point. Sample exam Q1 quotes the UN/UNFCCC definition: "average change in global temperature and precipitation due to human economic activity."
